About us

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust is a District General Hospital providing acute services to the people of West Essex and East Hertfordshire and has a positive and successful approach to developing and delivering health care. We're climbing the performance league tables and recently reached the new heights of a first ever National Compassionate Patient Care Award. 

Location

Princess Alexandra Hospital is conveniently located in Harlow, Essex just 20 minutes drive to London Stansted Airport and 30 minutes train ride to London Liverpool Street. Harlow also has excellent road connections across England, with the M11, M25, A10, M1 and A1 all on its doorstep.

The values and standards of the hospital

The Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) adopted its standards and behaviours after consultation with over 400 staff and patients. PAH is one of the few organisations in the country that have successfully reduced complaints by 50% and continued to do so year on year since 2013 because of the focus on patient care and the Achieving Excellence Patient Experience Improvement programme These are at the heart of all the organisation does and every staff member undergoes training and all appraisals reflect these. The Trust has a quality research culture, where excellence is promoted with strong research leadership and expert management is essential to understand, apply standards, principles and requirements correctly.

We currently participate in National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) portfolio adopted research as well as non-portfolio activity, which may consist of direct links to pharmaceutical companies, or as part of staff programmes of education. The Trust is a member of the North Thames Clinical Research Network (NT CRN), that supports the Trust with essential funding to make research happen, monitoring the activity within the Trust and benchmarking against co-members and national metrics.

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust also has links with Anglia Ruskin Heath Partnership (ARHP), and University College London Partnership (UCLP), and both organisations support research at the Trust. There are further opportunities for commercial trials through direct contact with Industry, collaboration with ARHP’s Clinical Trials Unit, in collaboration with Quintiles, a provider of Biopharmaceutical and commercial outsourcing for Clinical Trials.

The Trust is active across many specialties including Oncology, Breast Cancer, Muskulo-skeletal, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Diabetes and Gastroenterology.

We are fully committed to supporting you through your NMC revalidation and will provide you will full access to your own personal e-portfolio that can be accessed both from the Trust and your personal devices.

As a Trust we also provide a 5% High Cost Area Supplement (HCAS) added to the basic salary of all Agenda for Change positions. HCAS is not payable to Very Senior Manager posts. There is a minimum and maximum payment of £951 - £1649 pro rata for part time staff. Medical and Dental positions receive an additional Fringe London Weighting (FLW) supplement of £149 added to the basic salary.
