The Sheffield Children's NHS Trust was established in 1992. It is an Acute Services Trust with 159 beds and 406 nursing staff.

Over the past 120 years Sheffield Children's has become one of the foremost children's hospitals in the country. It is a referral centre for specialist paediatric care including: Neonatal Surgery, Limb Inequality, Cystic Fibrosis and Endocrinology. In 1997/98 over 13,000 children were admitted as in-patients and 42,000 treated as day cases. For the last few years the hospital has been undergoing major refurbishment of all clinical areas with a new OPD, Main Reception, CF unit and Clinical Genetics Unit.
