The Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Trust provides adult mental health and learning disability services across Hertfordshire; child and adolescent mental health services across Hertfordshire and children's services across West Hertfordshire. Some of these services are also provided beyond Hertfordshire.

The Trust has 2,440 staff and expected income of £114.64 million in 2002-03. The new Trust expanded in the winter of 2001 to include approximately 240 staff seconded from Hertfordshire County Council Adult Care Services involved in the care of people with mental health problems. At the same time 34 Learning Disability Nurses were seconded into the Community Learning Disability Teams run by Adult Care Services, from the Trust.

There are several benefits of these organisational changes. Firstly, to work towards offering the same level of service across Hertfordshire for mental health and learning disabilities. Secondly, to improve the seamlessness and co-ordination of mental health services through the integration of the County Council's adult care services with health. Finally a key benefit will result from the development of a more integrated service to vulnerable people with special needs as they move from children's services to adult services.
