Highly Specialist Physiotherapist - Neurorehabilitation
Band 7
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a forward thinking, passionate individual with proven experience within neurosciences with skills and experience suitable for a highly specialist physiotherapist to work within a level 1a neurorehabilitation setting. This is a permanent, part time 15 hours a week, position, job sharing with the current band 7 in post based at Salford care Organisation. .
This role involves working as a part of the well-established multi-disciplinary team which includes. Providing specialist neurorehabilitation to service users who have a wide variety of significant and complex impairments as a result of neurological injury or illness including: traumatic brain injury; acquired brain injury; spinal cord injury; Guillain barre syndrome; infections of the brain, or other inflammatory conditions of the peripheral or central nervous system.
The neurorehabilitation patients within the Level 1a neurorehabilitation wards present with complex, hyperacute and acute medical presentations associated with prolonged disorders of consciousness (PDOC) and patients requiring ongoing tracheostomy management to facilitate weaning.
The Band 7 will oversee the provision of tailored programmes including specific physiotherapeutic interventions, and the day-to-day planning of physical activities to be completed by each patient.
Main Duties
- To take a lead role in the advanced assessment and treatment of neurological rehabilitation patients, who may have complex and /or chronic presentation.
- To determine clinical diagnosis and treatment indicated and maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.
- To lead assessment, liaison, and decision-making processes on behalf of the MDT for patients referred to the neurorehabilitation service.
- To undertake a significant clinical caseload to a high professional standard using specialist knowledge from theoretical and practical experience.
- To plan, coordinate and evaluate the Physiotherapy Service within Neuro-Rehabilitation on a day-to-day basis, and to cover for any other area with this specific caseload as necessary.
- Act as a clinical adviser for Neurorehabilitation patients within the trust footprint.
- To facilitate complex tracheostomy weaning alongside the wider MDT
- Support assessment, treatment and care of PDOC patients within the service
- Contribute to complex spasticity management including complex positioning management.
- To be able to work across 7 days, contributing to weekend working and to the respiratory on-call rota.
